Varna, Bulgaria
The North-East Planning Region of Bulgaria (NEPR) is the third biggest region of Bulgaria. It has a strategic geographical position and excellent opportunities for intensive trade relations and trans-border cooperation. Its center is the city of Varna.
The region includes 6 districts: Varna, Dobrich, Razgrad, Silistra, Targovishte, Shoumen and 49 municipalities. Its population is 1 294 249, which is 16.48 % from the population of Bulgaria. Its territory is 19 973,4 km2. The region attracts 12% from the direct investments.
Main economic sectors:
- maritime industry/ maritime shipping and services related to maritime transport and port activities;
- chemical industry; metal and mechanical engineering and machine building; shipbuilding and ship repairing; light and food industry;
- textile industry; electrical engineering; shoe industry;
- production of building materials and construction, production of furniture; etc.
Agriculture is also well developed, plant-growing in Dobrich and Silistra Districts; stock-farming- in Razgrad and Targovishte.
