Tiruchirappalli (or) Trichy is the fourth largest city in Tamilnadu state, in India. Trichy region, considered as the educational hub of the state with around 80 engineering and science colleges producing more than 30,000 graduates. 

TREC-STEP is situated in an area renowned for Mechanical Engineering and Production Engineering strengths.  TREC-STEP is sandwiched between one of the India's best Navratna PSUs, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) and states renowned education institution, National Institute of Technology.  National Institute of Technology, the host institution of TREC-STEP with more than 150 doctorates and BHEL with around 1500 engineers and senior executives, has facilitated TREC-STEP in promoting the technology led ventures of young entrepreneurs from 1986.  From its inception TREC-STEP has promoted 160 industrial ventures of technocrat entrepreneurs. 

TREC-STEP has also supported three organizations to promote Incubators, Periyar Women Technology Business Incubator(TBI), India's first women bio-incubator working in the grass root level, Trichy District SSI Association (TIDITSSIA) - STED gives incubation support to the medium tech ventures, Welding Research Institute- TBI  which supports the new tech ventures in metallurgy and instrumentations to Trichy region.
