Tecnologico de Monterrey

Tecnologico de Monterrey is a multicampus system (33 in Mexico) with near to 100,000 students enrolled in bachelor and graduate programs. We have 27 incubators in our campuses and three additional Technology based incubators. In the present we are incubating 1,002 projects:

781 in pre-incubation (planning process),
150 in the incubation process (operating companies) and
71 graduated project from our incubation system.

In the Mexico City area there are no science parks; some other incubators in universities an municipalities.

In the Tecnologico de Monterrey, we have 11 research laboratories, 24 research centres, all of them ready to be used by the entrepreneurs in order to support the innovation process of their companies.

Specifically in the region we have 2 technology incubators, one focused on automotive projects and the other focused on information technology and electronics projects. In addition we have three mixed use incubators in the region. The incubators could house service projects, commercial projects, technology projects, and al the managerial part of a manufacturer project. We have neither space nor installations for manufacturing. But we can help negotiate arrangement with manufacturing parks nearby.

In the formal education arena, we carry several bachelor degrees in science, engineering, arts, and business. Also we have several graduate programs such as masters and doctoral studies. In the continual education, we teach several diploma course (between 80 and 160 hours of training), workshops, courses and in-house training.

We support the business start ups by the coaching of a mentor. His objective is to guide the entrepreneur in the start of the company and in their fist steps in the business world. Also the entrepreneur could access several advisors in different areas such as: marketing, operations, finance, taxes, etc. We organise some events for network developing such as experience sharing, expert breakfast, speed "business" dating, networking meetings.

In the region there are some business events such as regional SMB weeks, specific sector events (electronics, clothing, plastics, handcraft, etc), some businesspeople encounters, and several chamber events.

In 2007, Tecnológico de Monterrey Business incubator hosted 80 companies. 8 in the technology incubator and 72 in the business incubator.

FACILITIES

A) Business Incubator facilities: this facility is a private university incubator initiative intended to create a propitious environment for innovation, and is equipped with the most advanced infrastructure and services to back the efforts of start-ups of the entrepreneurs. The facilities, with over 200 sq.m housing modern facilities, is located in the Tecnológicos's de Monterrey facilities. It has 9 open-plan modules with floor areas from 12 to 25 sq.m.

TECHNOLOGY INCUBATOR FACILITIES

This is a facility run by Tecnologico de Monterrey and endowed with advanced infrastructures, and it is intended to provide support for the work of innovative small and medium-sized companies, and to further the adoption of the new information and communication technologies (ITC). This incubator brings together a wide range of activities and uses, all in the "CEDETEC" building (business development center and technology transfer).

The main aim of the Centre is to contribute to the development and consolidation of technology-based, innovative businesses. To achieve that, Tecnologico de Monterrey offers companies setting up there all the services and infrastructures they need to pursue their work, while also fostering an atmosphere of cooperation, generating synergies between those companies and other agents driving innovation.

The centre for Technology-Based Companies comprises 10 offices (15 sq mts) available for the tenants.
